One Surprising Tip About Home Decor

posted on: September 9, 2016

In styling and home decor, I recently realized that my voices mirror one another. This is a new-found similarity. As I was walking around the house the other day, picking the clothes off the floor, watering the plants and vacuuming the carpet, I would start to stir with this interior creativity. Certain design details that would be perfect for this corner and that wall-- it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had this urge to run and write it down, lest I forget. Eventually, I let it go.

This has been happening for some time now. My creative juices are flowing with design inspiration, but there is a larger part of me that needs to stop where I am and accept my current footing. Instead of grabbing the pen and paper, I'd rather look around and tidy what I have--fluff the bed, rearrange the plants and the books. I like to feel the weight of fabrics on my palms and the sight of my already loved furniture around a room. During styling sessions, I often say that we must accept who we are right at that very moment, and I feel the same about our homes. Especially now that I have two children in school and time is of the essence. This may be surprising, but maybe your home doesn't need more stuff, it just needs more acceptance of the stage it's in.

  1. Beautifully put. Totally agree. We are in the throes of a potential move but in the event our current home does not sell we will stick it out where we are, which is great just not as convenient as this potential new house. The realtor brought in a stager that just tweaked the arrangement of some of our pieces and 'voila' it is like new. I have new respect and appreciation for the space and the things in it.
