Transition Your Summer Staples

posted on: October 2, 2015

Ahh, cool weather. Have I said it enough? Probably so. Truth is, I'd much rather layer to warm up, then be left steamy and melting in my very own skin. Summer offers so many options when it comes to patterns and stretching a smaller budget. But fall, fall offers plenty of options in personal styling. There's endless fun to be had in terms of layering your garments, until winter arrives and forces you to conform to bare necessities. Winter isn't here yet, so that is neither here or there. Autumn is upon us; let's get crackin'.

I find there's a misconception when it comes to preparing for another season. You don't really need more of anything, just some basics and an eye for layering.

Here are a few summer staples that you can transition into fall with ease.

The Denim mini skirt.    Chances are, like so many others you kicked into this summer trend. I love how mod and warm this staple can look with a pair of tights and a pair of oxfords.

The Onesie.  This fall, instead of wearing it with a bra or comfortable tee, throw on a fitted turtleneck for a pop of color and comfort.

The floral dress. If you're still wanting to wear a bit of pattern this fall, try layering your favorite summer dress over a pair of jeans. I always find that this is still unexpected, but exceptionally warm.

Patched Denim. Your favorite jeans will look great with a men's inspired blazer. At first it seems kind of off, but there is an effortless cool with this particular fall look. If you're going out for a night, just throw on these. For the daytime, a pair of sneakers will do.

How do you transition into fall? I have a friend that is either all in or all out. Summer, or full-on winter. No in-between, except for the occasional hoodie. I love the idea of a slow transition, it makes the season a tad more enjoyable.

I hope you all have a great weekend! I'm off to go cuddle some kids, and try to sneak in a nap where I can.

  4. I agree that you don't really need to overhaul your closet in order to dress for the season. I know some members of my family have summer/winter clothes and they change out their closet with the season. I just wear everything all year round in different ways.
