Darker Tones

posted on: February 4, 2015

Usually, I'm the girl with the neon nail polish during fall, winter, spring, and summer. It's a habit that I've developed, a comfort zone of sorts. I guess I can say the same thing about wearing bright pieces of clothing. I find that despite my efforts, I will usually buy the orange skinnies instead of the black pair.

Despite all of that, this winter I've been trying to try something new. Leaning to more neutrals and darker tones. I will still pair the look with a bright pair of sneakers, or patterned jewelry, but generally speaking, it's darker looks for my normal.

After my feature on A Cup Of Jo (Thanks so much Joanna and Caroline!!), I got a few questions about my favorite lip color, polish, and general beauty products I didn't list in the interview. First, thank you guys for stopping by and reading, so happy to have you here!

I used to try and stay away from darker shades. That goes for nail polish, lips, and eye shadow. For a while there, I felt as if darker shades just didn't flatter my skin tone or full features. It was silly, and I think I developed an aversion to it subconsiounsly. As I mustered up the courage to try darker shades, I fell in love! I feel like darker shades enhance my already full lips and darker eyes. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, I feel most drawn to the girls with full and dark lips, dark nails, and amazing personalities. It's mysterious and beautiful. And I'm glad I was able to give it a try... and fall in love with it too.

A few of my favorite (darker) things below:

Rebel, Heroine, and Diva from Mac| Black Stila Eye liner| Rebel Nail Lacquer from Mac| Essie Velvet Voyeur

Are there any darker shades you like? I would love to try some new things!
