 Holiday "Day" Wear
A few years ago, when I was passed down some of my grandmother's pieces, the dresses...the non-everyday pieces is what struck my heart the most. Despite feeling like they weren't everyday I was overtaken with overwhelming joy and humility. These pieces, that she took care of so dearly, so precisely, and took such pride in would now be mine. Not all, but some. And the ones that were now mine, would constantly remind me of her and her joyous spirit. Unbeknownst to me, a little over a year later I would give birth to my own little girl. The pieces that I once felt the need to create outings for just to wear, I wanted to tuck away somewhere special and sacred. So my little girl could have a piece of her grandmother one day.

Years started to pass- almost 3 exactly, and I realized that just holding onto these garments, letting them collect dust, and hold memories only, wasn't doing my grandmother or them justice. They were made to be worn; by her, by me, and one day my River.

I started to think about how the dress I wore to my wedding was hers, something she wore on a simple boat trip with a white blazer and heels. That's how she was. Wearing the most dramatic and eye catching piece in the middle of the damn day. I started to think a little further, beyond these pieces, more about life in general. Life is about making moments whenever and wherever you see fit. Not waiting for the moment to present itself, or waiting for someone else to one day grow older and create those moments for you, its up to you! If you want to wear a fancy dress in the middle of the day, what's stopping you? Celebrate that that day! It's a new day full of undiscovered adventure and hope.

  1. Aww what a beautiful story & that is a beautiful dress, your grandmother has great taste! I agree with you, in life we should never wait for outside forces to dictate our happiness, we should simply create these moments ourselves every day!
